French Polishing

Antique Rocker
This great little rocker had a break in one of the barley twist spindles in the back. We had to put a small dowel into the spindle to securely repair the crack and then touch in the repair. We finished the piece with a high gloss French polish.
Round Dining Table
This is a piece damaged by the fire extinguishing foam as the firemen put out a fire in a NYC apartment. Also, the table had to be moved out of the way quickly, so it was scratched and dented in several places. The table is an antique reproduction that had a lacquer finish that was extremely brittle. Upon stripping the piece, we found that we had to reverse and re-instate prior restorations. Once we were able to remove the old finish, we began our restoration process. We carefully repaired all the dents and scratches before French polishing the tabletop. We also repaired scratches to the table base and polished the brass feet to bring them back to their original bright shine.

 Mid-Century Widdicomb Chest of Drawers
A Shelter Island,  NY client asked us to restore this stunning chest of drawers. The piece had scratches and stains on the top, and over time, the finish had become dull. The piece came out beautifully and looks perfect in her guest room.
Antique Game Table
After restoring and refinishing this table, we gave it a glossy Traditional French polish.

Antique Maple Chair
After re-gluing and stabilizing this chair, the final step was a Traditional French Polish. Perfection.
Antique Drop Leaf Table
One of our clients in Orient, NY asked us to restore this table as well as 6 chairs (below). The drop leaf table had quite a few scratches as well as burn and water marks on the top. In addition, finish had lost its luster over time. We had to strip the tabletop and hand sand it to remove the burn marks and stains. We were careful to preserve the lovely grain and some of the marks so the tabletop did not look new as it has a great patina.
We also had to tighten up some of the joints to stabilize the table. Once all the prep work and stabilization was done, we stained the wood and gave it a French polish to a rich, deep shine.
Antique Chair
Our client in Orient, NY inherited this chair, which is one of a pair. We worked on this chair first. We had to repair and re-glue damage to the chair frame, re-create several missing pieces to the wood on the front of the chair and then complete the project with a French polish. The beautiful detail of the wood really shines through with the French polish!
Antique Table Desk
An antique store in Cutchogue, NY asked us to French Polish this desk as he had an interested buyer but wanted the desk to look its best. The first two photos show the desk in the shop. It has lovely decorative features but was a bit scratched and the finish had become dull. We stripped the top, removed the scratches and gave it a terrific French Polish. They bought the desk!
